The Montessori Approach
What is the Montessori method?
Initially founded by Dr. Maria Montessori, an esteemed Italian physician, the Montessori philosophy takes a comprehensive approach to nurturing children’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development by encouraging exploration and imaginative play.
Empowering Learning
This methodology empowers children to make their own decisions, learn, and progress at their individual speed, fostering confidence, independence, and self-worth while laying the groundwork for lifelong learning.
Pivotal Growth Years
At the core of the Montessori method lies the belief that the early years, spanning from birth to six years old, represent a critical period for optimal learning and growth.
How we implement the Montessori method at Blossom Tree
Interest-Driven Learning
We prepare the environment according to the children’s interests. Activities are created and constantly adapted to meet the needs of the childrens’ age and stage of development, and the children are directed towards the activities that are appropriate to their developmental needs.
Independence & Exploration
We give the children freedom of choice, fostering independence, self discovery and personal responsibility. Children navigate their own learning. At this age, children learn 80% by exploration and 20% with adult direction. As the children get older, the learning becomes more adult directed.
The Montessori nursery difference
Activities start from being simple and are graded to challenge a child further in their development. There are many variations of activities which skilled practitioners will create by observing the childrens’ needs and interests.
The children use glass jugs and bowls, carried carefully to their workspace. The children also use real scissors. A child that is given responsibility learns how to be responsible. The finest materials are used adhering to safety standards and children are always shown how to use materials safely.
The classroom has carefully crafted Montessori equipment with specific aims to develop the children's; senses, maths, language, science, history and geographic knowledge by hands-on experiences.
Early Years Foundation Stage
The EYFS, or Early Years Foundation Stage, is a framework that outlines the standards for the education, development, and care of children from birth to 5 years old in England for Ofsted registered settings.
Areas of Learning
Prime Areas
We have a strong focus on the three Prime Areas of Learning.
Specific Areas
We also support children’s learning and development through the specific areas of learning. The four specific areas are designed to enhance learning and development within the prime areas, which is how all 7 areas are connected.
What parents say
If you are looking for a daycare where your child not only is looked after, entertained and challenged educationally but they are also treated like a part of a family, this is a place for you.
The whole team are incredibly nurturing right from the baby room all the way up to bumblebees. The updates on the app throughout the day are really reassuring, particularly in those first few weeks.
He is truly enjoying himself here and learning so much. We are truly grateful for all your hard work!
A very well structured evening. It was great to be able to go to different areas of learning and see the activities and progress to challenge the children's development
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You have created such a warm environment and Leela certainly feels that it’s a home away from home
As super busy full time working parents it is so important that we feel like everything is world class when we leave our daughter each morning. She is growing and flourishing with their love and care daily
We are so delighted with her development and how she seems to thrive in your care. Violet often shares stories from her day and loves to look at photos and videos
Blossom Tree Montessori is an exceptional nursery. The staff are very kind, caring and nurturing. Our daughter is very happy there - we can see how her confidence has really grown since joining the nursery. The teachers and managers are very approachable and communicate effectively with us
